When Internet Marketers put up a website to sell a product online, and you ask them what is it going to take in order for this website to be considered successful and actually make money, they will always tell you targeted traffic. This basically means knowing that people who come to the site have some degree of interest in what that site is about.
The really smart Internet Marketer knows ways of capturing much of that traffic by giving visitors something of value in exchange for their name and email address. Usually it is in the nature of a free report, or a giveaway of some sort that would interest people within a specific market niche.
So even if the visitor does not buy when they first visit, the Internet Marketer can build a list of prospective customers that at least have an interest in the niche market the site is about and now have a way of keeping in touch with them to send emails to encourage them to buy the product at a later time or perhaps a different product that they might be interested in. No, this is not SPAM, this is a voluntary opt-in where they are giving you full permission to send them emails and the prospective customer always has the option to opt-out if they no longer wish to receive emails from you.
Lets say for example you have a website that sells pet supplies. Does it stand to reason that at least 99% of the people visiting this site may have some degree of interest of buying pet supplies? I mean if not, then what on earth drew them to your site, because they were looking for plumbing supplies? I don't think so.
So the visitor comes to your site and may not see exactly what they want, but they do see that you are giving away a free report on seven ways that will make any pet healthier and happier. Now that may catch their interest and they decide to opt-in (it is free after all) to your mailing list to get that report.
Now if they were not a pet lover, would they have opted to receive the report? I think not. So as people download your report you are building a list of avid pet lovers who have given you exclusive permission to send them emails.
Step back and think about that for a second. You sell pet supplies and you have your own exclusive list of pet lovers that have given you permission to contact them.
Also it is important that you put a lot of great and interesting content into the report. You do this, then your subscribers see you as an authority on the subject and will look to you for advice when they are in need of something.
Do you see the money making potential here? If you are a businessperson I will assume you realize that is a rhetorical question.
If you would like to learn more about this and other great ideas I have download my free report, or contact me today.
